So I got a chance to test my new printer with the paper samples it came with. I am so pleased to be able to give form to my photos in ink – i.e. finally being able to do this on my own, and conveniently, after shooting with a digital camera since fall 2009.
This ability changes everything. To have maximum control over my work is extremely important to me, because I am able to follow the process from beginning to end and adjust as I intuitively feel. To have a printer in the digital age is the equivalent of having a darkroom in the film age.
And although it took me a while to get to this point, printers have progressed greatly since 2009 and so has my work, and equally important, what I want to do with the things that I make, my favorite way to use them, a stronger focus.
All of this has made my weekend.
